The Academy Instructor Certificate Program (AICP) is an instructor
development program for adoption by the basic academies.
Academies are provided a state-of-the-art instructor
development curriculum
and guidelines. The program is designed to develop competency
in the following areas: role and responsibilities of the instructor,
adult learning principles, lesson planning, presentation skills,
facilitation skills, learning resources, and evaluation methods.
The program consists of 24 hours of instruction and 8 to 16 hours
of competency demonstration. Program graduates receive certificates of completion. The initial certification lasts three
years and is renewable by satisfaction of the following two requirements:
24 hours of teaching within three years, and participation in 8
hours of professional development activity.
For experienced instructors, the program offers an equivalency
process for certification. Such individuals must have completed
at least 24 hours of instruction in teaching techniques. Certificates
are conferred following successful demonstration of competency via
a standard evaluation protocol.
