Peace Officer Psychological Screening Dimensions
At its July 20, 2006, meeting, the POST Commission approved the issuance of Psychological Screening Dimensions (pdf) for use in the pre-employment psychological evaluation of peace officers. The new set of ten validated peace officer psychological attributes was developed from an extensive job analysis. Each of the ten psychological dimensions includes a behaviorally-based definition and a list of associated positive and counterproductive peace officer behaviors. In addition to serving as a foundation for the upcoming POST Psychological Screening Manual, these dimensions provide a set of job-related attributes to help foster communication between psychologists, hiring authorities, and others involved in the peace officer screening process.
