| At its July 20, 2006, meeting, the
POST Commission approved the issuance of Psychological Screening Dimensions (pdf)
for use in the pre-employment psychological evaluation of peace officers.
The new set of ten validated peace officer psychological attributes
was developed from an extensive job analysis. Each of the ten psychological
dimensions includes a behaviorally-based definition and a list of
associated positive and counterproductive peace officer behaviors. In addition
to serving as a foundation for the upcoming POST Psychological
Screening Manual, these dimensions provide a set of job-related
attributes to help foster communication between psychologists, hiring authorities,
and others involved in the peace officer screening process.
Questions about the psychological screening dimensions, or the upcoming revision of the POST Psychological
Screening Manual may be directed to Shelley Weiss Spilberg, Ph.D., at 916.227.4824 or by email
at Shelley.Spilberg@post.ca.gov.
