POST, in collaboration with the Regional Training Center of San Diego (SDRTC) conducts the annual Instructor Training Symposium that is open to all California law enforcement trainers. This 24-hour interactive workshop provides updated training on an array of subjects, including adult learning principles, facilitation and presentation skills, critical thinking, strategies for improving learner retention, speaking with confidence and clarity, creating and managing learning activities, Apple for law enforcement, social media for trainers, civil liability update - failure to train, use of force, and ECD litigation, power point, video production, paralanguage, multimedia presentations, stress management, and leadership and ethics in training. Each workshop places an emphasis on giving the law enforcement trainer skills that they can immediately apply to their role of training. This symposium also offers an additional four hour block of training on the first day exclusively for instructors of any Institute of Criminal Investigation course, as well as an “Excellence in Instruction” Awards luncheon.
The location of the Instructor Symposium rotates from Northern to Southern California each year to facilitate attendance of students from the local areas. Tuition for this training, travel and per diem, is POST reimbursable by Letter of Agreement for all attendees.
