If you didn't have them, you wouldn't be wearing that badge on your chest.

We know that cops will risk their lives to save a fellow officer and rarely hesitate to speak up when they observe a tactical mistake.  So why do we turn a blind eye when our beat partners fail to wear their seat belt or drive with excessive speed?  That conversation could just as easily save a life.

If you don't say anything, then who will?  Remember, a courageous conversation is just another way of stating “I've got your back.”

Two articles from Law Officer Magazine speak to this issue.  The first is by recently retired California Highway Patrol Sergeant David Kinaan and former member of the SAFE Driving Campaign MOTORS Advisory Group.  The second is from Tulsa (OK) PD Captain Travis Yates, a member of the SAFE Driving Campaign Vehicle Operations and Training Advisory Council.

Speak up!  Care enough about your fellow officer to bring dangerous behaviors to their attention.

Wear your seatbelt, watch your speed, and practice SAFE driving!
