“This photo is where they pulled me out and my life would start over.”
-Officer Mike Mitchell- California Highway Patrol
Core instructor “Below 100”
In 2011, Officer Mike Mitchell lost control of his patrol car in a 102 mph pursuit. He was fortunate, an off duty deputy found him and radioed in for help. Despite many injuries, including an amputation to his right leg above the knee, Mitchell returned to full duty 11 months later. He pulled through this life changing event with his wife’s support and because his children believed he was a hero. He refused to let his children down, and needed them to know they could not give up, no matter how difficult times were.
Mitchell is now participating in the CA POST Master Instructor program, and wants to create a course to help agencies, families, and individuals like himself navigate emotional, physical, and financial recovery from catastrophic injuries. Any current or retired law enforcement (LE) officer, or risk manager, can help Mitchell by taking a brief survey. When completed, please forward the survey to other LE or risk management personnel. The survey results will help Mitchell develop much needed course curriculum.
