Association of Professional Law Enforcement Emergency
Vehicle Response Trainers International
September 14, 2012
Today’s SAFE Driving Campaign News focuses on another outstanding organization that we have partnered with in our efforts to reduce fatal and serious injury law enforcement traffic collisions nationwide. The Association of Professional Law Enforcement Emergency Vehicle Response Trainers (A.L.E.R.T. International) is in their 21st year and is the only association dedicated solely to EVOC Trainers.
A.L.E.R.T. International is dedicated to the encouragement and correlation of research and development as well as the sharing of information, ideas, and innovations in the area of emergency vehicle response operation. Additionally, A.L.E.R.T.’s mission is to provide assistance to states in establishing effective and defensible standards for employment and training of law enforcement officers in the field of emergency vehicle operations. Another aspect of the mission is the promotion of a positive, professional image of emergency response trainers.
The organization was founded in 1990 to professionalize the field of emergency vehicle operation instruction. The motivation for organizing came following the death of a FBI EVOC instructor. They hold an annual national conference with several regional conferences throughout the year.
The current president of A.L.E.R.T. International, Travis Yates of the Tulsa (OK) Police Department, and vice president Doug Larsen of the Utah Department of Public Safety, both serve as members of the SAFE Driving Campaign’s Vehicle Operations and Training Advisory Council.
The SAFE Driving Campaign is pleased to have A.L.E.R.T. International as a valued “beat partner.” For more information visit the A.L.E.R.T. International Website.
