Mark was hired as Senior Law Enforcement Consultant for the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for Region 9, which covers the Los Angeles County area.

Prior to becoming a Senior Law Enforcement Consultant, Mark had a 31-year career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) and retired as a captain.  His last assignment was commanding the department's Training Bureau, which oversaw academy training, as well as in-service training for the 18,000 employees. During his career he worked in custody services, field operations (patrol), Major Crimes Bureau, Emergency Operations Bureau, Special Operations Division, was a crisis negotiator, and was on one of LASD's Incident Management Team which managed large scale incidents.

During Mark's time at Emergency Operations Bureau, he was assigned to Los Angeles County's Information Collection and Dissemination (ICAD) team where he was sent to various disasters, including the 2011 Japan Earthquake, 2012 Hurricane Sandy, and the 2014 South Napa Earthquake.  He brought back lessons-learned and best-practices to the Los Angeles Operational Area.

Mark has a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice from the California State University of Long Beach. He has attended the following leadership courses during his law enforcement career: Command College, National Jail Leadership Command Academy, Middle Management, Enhanced Incident Management at Texas A&M, and Tactical Science for Law Enforcement.

In keeping his commitment to Lifetime Fitness, Mark enjoys endurance sports and has competed in 17 Ironman triathlons, cycling races, the Baker to Vegas Relay Race, numerous marathons including the Boston Marathon.
