The POST Commission forms a balanced group of city and county administrators,
law enforcement professionals, educators, and public members. The
Governor appoints 14 of the commissioners, with the advice and consent
of the Senate, for three-year overlapping terms. The Attorney General
is an ex-officio member and serves as the 15th POST Commissioner.
The Commission meets quarterly to establish standards and regulations
and to give direction to POST staff. Commissioners serve without
pay, but are reimbursed for their expenses for attending meetings.

dates are available on this website.

Deborah Linden
Chair |
Police Chief Deborah Linden has served as the chief of the City of San Luis Obispo
Police Department since 2003. She is a member of community and law enforcement organizations including
the Tri-Counties Anti-Defamation League Advisory Board, the California Police Chiefs' Association, the
California Narcotic Officers' Association, and the University of California, Santa Barbara Center on
Police Practices and Community. |

Michael Sobek
Vice Chair |
Sergeant Michael Sobek has over 20 years experience in law enforcement, serving
with the San Leandro Police Department since 1991 and the Alameda County Sheriff's Department from
1984 to 1991. Additionally, he has served as adjunct faculty at Chabot/Los Positas Community
College since 2002. |

Anthony Batts |
Police Chief Anthony Batts is a 22-year
veteran of the Long Beach Police Department. He previously
served as Deputy Chief of Police, where he supervised the Training,
Information Technology, Jail, and Communications divisions of the department.
He is a member of the California Police Chiefs' Association and the Board of
Directors for the National Conference for Community and Justice. Chief Batts
earned a doctorate in public administration from the University of La Verne,
a master's degree in business management from the University of Redlands, and
a bachelor's degree in law enforcement administration from California State
University, Long Beach. |

Lai Lai Bui |
Lai Lai Bui has served as a detective in
the Special Investigations Division of the Sacramento Police
Department since 2001. In this capacity she conducts investigations
of narcotic and gang-related crimes. Previously, she served
as a patrol and problem-oriented police officer from 1995 to
2000. She is also a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)
instructor and is certified in Integrated Narcotic Training. |

Collene Campbell |
Collene Campbell has served as the President
of Memory of Victims Everywhere (MOVE) since she founded the
organization in 1989. She served as Mayor of the City of San
Juan Capistrano and as a member of the city council from 1992
through 2002. She was a member of the Commission on POST
from 1992 to 1998. She has also served on the California Council
on Criminal Justice, the League of California Cities Criminal
Justice Committee, and the National Crime Victim Law Institute
Board. |

Robert T. Doyle |
Sheriff Robert T. Doyle has served as Sheriff of Marin County since 1996.
He first joined the Marin County Sheriff's Department in 1969 and served as Undersheriff from 1989 to 1996.
Sheriff Doyle is past president of the California State Sheriffs’ Association and chairman of the
Legislative Committee. |

Bonnie Dumanis |
District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has served as San Diego County District Attorney
since 2003. She was previously a judge in the San Diego County Superior and Municipal Courts from
1994 to 2003. In addition, she was a juvenile court referee for the San Diego County Superior
Court from 1990 to1994 and a deputy district attorney in the San Diego County District Attorney's
Office from 1978 to 1989. |

Floyd Hayhurst |
Deputy Sheriff Floyd Hayhurst has served as a deputy sheriff for the Los Angeles County
Sheriff’s Department since 1982. He has also served as Vice President of the Association
for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs since 2005 and has been on the Board of Directors since 2001. |

Scott Himelstein |
Scott Himelstein has served as president of the William D. Lynch Foundation for Children since April 2007 and previously held the same position from 1990 to 2005. Mr. Himelstein served as the deputy secretary and chief of staff for the Office of the Secretary of Education (OSE) from 2005 to 2007 and was acting secretary from 2006 to 2007. Prior to joining the OSE, he served as chair and chief executive officer of the National Even Start Association. |

Ronald Lowenberg |
Ronald Lowenberg has more than 35 years
of law enforcement experience, most recently serving as
dean and director of the Golden West College Criminal Justice
Training Center since 2003. Previously, he served as chief
of police in the cities of Cypress, Huntington Beach, and Pomona.
In addition, Mr. Lowenberg served on the Commission
from 1989 to 1998 and is a past president of the California
Police Chiefs' Association and a former board member of the
California Peace Officers' Association. |

Jeffrey Lundgren |
Jeffrey Lundgren, since 1988, has served as deputy sheriff with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Additionally, since 1999, Lundgren has been assigned to the Riverside County Sheriff's Departments Hazardous Device Team as a public safety bomb technician and canine handler. From 1986 to 1988, he was a supervisor with Chen-Tech Industries. |

John McGinness |
John McGinness has served as sheriff of Sacramento County since 2006. He previously was undersheriff for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office from 2002 to 2006. Additionally, McGinness has been an instructor at California State University, Long Beach since 2006. From 1995 to 2006, McGinness was a Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training instructor for the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation. He also served as an instructor for the Los Rios Community College District from 2004 to 2006. |

Henry Perea |
Henry Perea has served as a member of the
Fresno City Council since 2003 and, prior to that, served as
a district representative for Fresno City Council member Brad
Castillo and Congressman Cal Dooley. |

Laurie Smith |
Sheriff Laurie Smith has served as Sheriff of Santa Clara County since 1998
and as Assistant Sheriff from 1990 to 1998. She first joined the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department
in 1973. Sheriff Smith previously served on the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training
(POST) from 2001 to 2003 and is a member of the Speaker's Commission on Police Conduct and the
Office of the Attorney General's Blue Ribbon Commission on SWAT Practices and Policies. |

Gil Van Attenhoven |
Gil Van Attenhoven has worked for the California Department of Justice since 1984 in various positions. Since 2003, Van Attenhoven has been senior special agent in charge, from 2000 to 2003 was special agent in charge, from 1992 to 1999 was special agent supervisor and from 1984 to 1992 was special agent. Prior to that, he served as deputy sheriff for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department assigned to the Basic Recruit Academy, patrol services, and correctional facilities. Van Attenhoven is first vice president of the California Narcotic Officers' Association. |
