Course Description
Psychological pre-employment evaluations are critical for identifying candidates with the judgment, emotional stability, and resilience required for public safety work. When results are interpreted without adequate cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic context, otherwise suitable candidates may be mischaracterized as higher risk. This session is designed for psychologists conducting pre-employment screenings and examines how culture, language proficiency, and life experience influence test performance, self-report data, and interview presentation. Using clinical principles and anonymized case examples, participants will learn to distinguish true psychological risk from culturally mediated response patterns, reduce false negatives, and maintain ethical, defensible, and sound selection practices.
