Course Description
The workshop will provide in-depth, application-oriented instruction on the requirements and guidelines in the POST Peace Officer Psychological Screening Manual. Consistent with the information in the Manual, the focus of the workshop is on preemployment screening of peace officer candidates.
Course Objectives
Discuss POST Regulations related to preemployment psychological screening. Explain the use of the POST Psychological Screening Dimensions in evaluating peace officer candidates. Identify the similarities and differences between the Psychological Screening Dimensions and the POST Background Investigation Dimensions. Discuss the psychological evaluation process and procedures described in the POST Manual and their use in conducting an integrative process for reaching a suitability determination. Relate the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the California Fair Employment and Housing Act and how the impact preemployment psychological evaluations. Apply the basic psychometric principles surrounding testing and how they are used to evaluate prospective tests for use in candidate screening. Interpret test scores on the MMPI-2 RF, PCIR, CPI, PAI, 16 PF PSR and IPI.
