Course Description

This intermediate-level workshop will focus on the preparation of written reports of preemployment psychological evaluations of police officer candidates with the goal of optimizing efficiency, defensibility, transparency, and relevance. With an eye on preparing a report aimed at seven potential readers (the hiring agency, candidate, second-opinion psychologist or other expert reviewer, plaintiff’s counsel, civil service commission, court of ultimate jurisdiction, and licensing board/ethics committee), participants will learn how to integrate information from the MMPI-2-RF Police Candidate Interpretive Report® (PCIR; Corey & Ben-Porath, 2014) and other assessment findings to support evidence-based conclusions about a candidate’s suitability for employment as a law enforcement officer.

Course Objectives

Describe the minimum requisite components of a written report for any police officer candidate preemployment psychological evaluation. Utilize a data integration model (Spilberg & Corey, 2014) to help structure and support the written narrative of the report. Properly use and cite findings from the MMPI-2-RF Police Candidate Interpretive Report in preparation of the written narrative. Defensibly consider race, ethnicity, and other cultural factors in the interpretation and integration of assessment findings. Prepare written reports that are efficient, defensible, transparent, and relevant.
