Course Description

This workshop will begin with a brief review of best practices in preemployment suitability evaluations of police candidates and the legal, ethical, and empirical foundations that inform them. Participants will then learn how to make evidence-based suitability determinations using a 5-step data integration model applied to redacted, real-life case materials that include the MMPI-3 Police Candidate Interpretive Report (PCIR; Corey & Ben-Porath, 2022), the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ) Police Preemployment Interpretive Report (PPIR; Corey, Sellbom, & Ben-Porath, 2023), and findings from collateral background information, self- reported history, and clinical interview. Although the focus of the workshop is on law enforcement suitability evaluations, the content is applicable to the evaluation of candidates for other public safety positions, including correctional officers, emergency communication dispatchers, and firefighters/paramedics.
