Course Description

Screening out police applicants with biased, extreme, and other antisocial traits and tendencies is critical to preserving constitutional policing. Emerging technologies have advanced the science of police screening on multiple fronts, from enhancing data collection strategies to increasing the capacity for more complex analytics that improve the detection of high-risk factors, such as extreme or overvalued beliefs and bias or prejudice. This session, led by a board-certified police psychologist, defines the most counterproductive traits and tendencies and outlines a forensic investigative model of assessment. It details a multimethod screening approach and newer data collection techniques, while also highlighting limitations in existing frameworks, tools, techniques, and analytics.
