Course Description
This session examines the evolving role of police psychologists in agency consultation, particularly in complex HR, legal, and organizational/agency dilemmas. Presenters will review Consultation Guidelines and best practices through real-world case examples, including EEOC complaints, pre-employment disputes, and conflicts between HR policies and professional ethics. Attendees will learn practical frameworks for strengthening collaboration among psychologists, command staff, HR, and legal counsel to enhance accountability, reduce liability, and support organizational wellness and integrity.
Course Objectives
Upon completion, attendees will be able to identify and explain the roles, ethical boundaries, and risk management functions of police psychology consultation, be able to evaluate and respond to complex HR and agency dilemmas using established consultation guidelines, ethical standards, and best practice, and be able to apply and implement strategies for documentation, role clarification, and boundary management to reduce risk and enhance professional integrity.
