Course Description

This seminar will cover the primary issues in the preemployment evaluation of police and public safety job candidates, including legal foundations, best practices in testing and test interpretation, conducting the clinical interview, gathering and weighing personal history information, integrating assessment data to reach a suitability determination, and communicating findings. Guidance from the Psychological Screening Manual recently published by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) will be reviewed, and key distinctions between preemployment and fitness-for-duty evaluations will be discussed.
