Course Description

This workshop provides an introduction to and review of key psychometric issues in psychological testing and assessment. The primary learning objectives cover basic statistical and psychometric principles including, correlational statistics, estimating reliability and measurement error, estimating and evaluating test score validity, and norms and standardization of test scores. Implications of psychometric considerations for the conduct of forensic psychological evaluations are considered and illustrated.

Course Objectives

Conceptualize and explain correlational statistics;Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of various methods for estimating reliability;Use reliability estimates to calculate and use confidence intervals and standard errors of measurement;Define and differentiate between content, criterion and construct validity of psychological test scores;Evaluate the validity of psychological test scores used in forensic assessments;Appraise strengths and limitations of psychological test norms;Convey information related to basic psychometric principles and findings to triers of fact
