Course Description

Having worked in the field of addiction since 1983, I have walked many clients through their denial and resistance. Since my career path has focused on Public Safety, I have discovered many challenges when addressing the topic of addiction. This presentation will discuss these challenges as well as offer skills to define addiction vs misuse of alcohol and other addictive behaviors. Attendees will leave this session with skills and tools that will provide resources to assist their Law Enforcement clients in making necessary behavioral changes as it relates to addictive behaviors. The session will also tackle process addictions such as gambling, relationships, and work. The presentation is meant to offer assessment ideas as well as tools to break the barriers that are present with Law Enforcement when addressing addictive behaviors.
