Course Objectives

  • Differentiate key cultural features across first responder subgroups (e.g., police, fire, paramedic, corrections) and describe how these features influence the expression and reporting of trauma-related symptoms
  • Analyze how occupational mental health training and stigma norms shape help-seeking behavior, delayed disclosure, and symptom presentation in forensic contexts
  • Identify features of inpatient treatment commonly reported by first responders as being important contributors to recovery
