Course Description
NOTE: This 4-hour course is approved for 2 hours of POST CPE.This course examines diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles as they apply to clinical mental health practice. It clarifies essential DEI terms and concepts relevant to clinical settings and highlights the roles providers have in fostering equitable care. Designed for social workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and counselors, the material covers the effects of social determinants of health on mental health outcomes in underserved communities, the historical context and evolution of DEI in mental health, legal and ethical responsibilities of mental health professionals, and tools to mitigate implicit biases and microaggressions in practice. Case examples throughout the course illustrate culturally responsive assessment and intervention techniques for clients with diverse backgrounds and values, supporting clinicians in advancing a more just and equitable mental health system.
