Course Description
This workshop is for licensed psychologists interested in conducting preemployment psychological evaluations of peace officer candidates. The focus of the presentation is on the legal and ethical issues involved in conducting these evaluations, including the ADA, FEHA, legalization of medical use of marijuana, GINA, California Government Code 1031, and POST Commission Regulation 1955. The workshop will discuss case examples of legal and ethical dilemmas psychologist may face when conducting preemployment psychological screenings in addition to case examples involving cultural factors and how they impact data integration and related inferences.
Course Objectives
Discuss the impact of cultural factors on self-report measures and interview behavior. Explain legal guidelines regulating preemployment evaluations including POST regulations, GINA, GC 1031 and Commission Regulation 1955. Discuss recent legal issues of how legalization of marijuana/medical use should be reported and interpreted. Discuss common ethical dilemmas facing psychologists when conducting preemployment evaluations. Explain the effective model for assessing cultural competence. Discuss effective methods of how to effectively integrate cultural, ethical, and legal considerations into a preemployment report.
