Course Description

Women in law enforcement represent approximately 12-13% of law enforcement officers in the U.S. From the emergence of a pandemic to the changing demands placed on law enforcement officers today, occupational stressors for women in law enforcement have distinct challenges. This presentation will address and identify ways to help agencies mitigate through the occupational stress experience of women in law enforcement. We will explore: • The role of women in leadership positions and challenges they face in today’s law enforcement culture. • Complex navigation through a male dominated field and feelings of “organizational segregation.” • Boundary challenges for optimizing the work-life balance • An in-depth look at unique occupational stressors for women officers of color • Future directions
