Course Description
NOTE: This 6 hour course is approved for 2 hours of POST CPE.
Are marijuana and related substances addictive and dangerous? What does scientific research say? Marijuana is associated with two plant-based substances, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). Marijuana and associated substances can produce euphoria. The six-hour educational program, "Marijuana, THC, and CBD," will focus on how marijuana and related substances interact with natural chemicals in the human body. The course will review what the National Academy of Medicine says about marijuana. Marijuana can be consumed by inhalation from smoking, vaping, eating, and drinking. The course will cover marijuana's addictive potential. It will cover the nature, management, and clinical testing of acute marijuana intoxication. It will review marijuana's adverse effects and drug interactions. The course will cover how marijuana can be a gateway drug, leading to the abuse of more potent drugs, such as opioids and methamphetamine. It will discuss the available, valid research on the long-term effects on the brain and the body of regular and heavy marijuana use. The course will cover the impact of marijuana on such situations as nausea, vomiting, anorexia, chronic pain, anxiety, and childhood seizures
