POST Guidelines for Student Safety
in Certified Courses

The POST Guidelines for Student Safety in Certified Courses (pdf) establish procedures to reduce and prevent injuries to students during reality-based training. Law enforcement professionals require a wide array of physical and mental abilities, known as “manipulative skills.” The most effective way to acquire these skills is through training that closely replicates real-life situations with the related risk factors. Without this exposure, the prospective officer is not prepared to make critical decisions during real-life incidents. This manual offers effective safety guidelines which must be incorporated into individual agency's safety policies which are required to be included in any course certification package involving psychomotor skills. The appendices include a glossary of terms and information on safety policies, procedures, and checklists. (See right panel.)

Questions about student safety guidelines may be directed to the Training Program Services Bureau at 916.227.4885 or to your Regional Consultant.
