Matthew O'Deane has worked in law enforcement for 27 years. He began his career with the National City Police Department in December of 1991. He was promoted to the rank of Patrol Sergeant before leaving the NCPD to work for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation in March of 2002. From 2002 to July of 2019, Matthew worked for the Bureau of Investigation as an Investigator, Supervising Investigator, and as a Commander assigned to oversee the Gang Prosecution Unit, the Narcotics Unit, Cold Case Homicide and Training Units. He was also the California Witness Relocation and Protection Program Coordinator for San Diego County for 3 years.

Matthew has a Ph.D. in Public Policy, a Masters in Public Administration, and a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. Since 2011, he has experience teaching criminal justice, public administration, and leadership courses at several academic institutions, most recently at the University of San Diego in the Masters of Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership program. He also has experience with curriculum design for law enforcement and several academic institutions, including co-developing the San Diego County Regional Leadership Institute in 2015.
