Purpose

14-1. Specifications for the District Attorney Investigator Transition Course

This Commission procedure implements that portion of the Minimum Standards for Training established in Commission Regulation 1005(a) for the District Attorney Investigator Transition Course for district attorney investigators or inspectors.

14-2. District Attorney Investigator Transition Course Definitions and Requirements

The District Attorney Investigator Transition Course is a minimum of 40 hours and consists of the learning goals adopted by the Commission. In order to meet local needs, flexibility in curriculum may be authorized with prior POST approval. The District Attorney Investigator Transition Course is organized under the following broad topic areas: 

  • Role, Authority, Professionalism and Ethics
  • Concepts of Search and Seizure 
  • Trial Preparation 
  • Fraud and Consumer Protection Investigations 
  • Child Abduction Investigation 
  • Public Corruption 
  • Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigations
  • Investigation of Alleged Peace Officer Misconduct
  • Threat Assessment and Safety Considerations
  • Legal Update and Emerging Issues 

Procedure D-14 was adopted and incorporated by reference into Commission Regulation 1005 on January 1, 2002, amended January 1, 2006, January 1, 2009, October 1, 2018, and January 1, 2026.
