Entry-Level Testing Training FAQs
- What training courses are available?
There are currently four different training courses available for the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) and the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery (Dispatcher Test).
-
Dispatcher Test Proctor Training – This training course is the same for both Training Coordinators and Proctors and is intended for those who will administer and/or proctor the paper-and-pencil Dispatcher Test.
-
PELLETB Proctor Training – This training course is the same for both Training Coordinators and Proctors and is intended for those who will administer and/or proctor the paper-and-pencil PELLETB.
-
Online PELLETB Proctor Training – This training course is for those who will serve as a Proctor for the online PELLETB.
-
Online PELLETB Test Coordinator Training – This training course is for those who will serve as a Test Coordinator for the online PELLETB.
- There are two groups of people who need to be trained. One group will be the Test Coordinators, and the other group will be the Proctors. Is training different between the two groups?
For the traditional paper-and-pencil PELLETB and Dispatcher tests, the training courses are the same.
For the online PELLETB, the Proctor and Test Coordinator trainings are different. The Online PELLETB trainings cover essential information needed for the online PELLETB to be prepared and administered appropriately. Test Coordinators are required to complete both trainings (i.e., the Online PELLETB Test Coordinator Training and the Online PELLETB Proctor Training). By completing both trainings, Test Coordinators gain a full understanding of testing requirements, security protocols, and standardized practices. This ensures every test session is run consistently and in compliance with regulations and test procedures. Proctors are required to only complete the Online PELLETB Proctor Training.
- How is someone nominated for a training course?
To be nominated for a training course, an agency’s Test Coordinator must submit a Training Nomination through our Training Nomination page.
- Can I nominate myself for a training course?
Yes, you can nominate yourself for a training course ONLY if you are designated as one of your agency’s Test Coordinators on your agency’s Designee List.
- Is there a fee to take the training courses?
No, the training courses are free.
- How are the training courses delivered?
The training courses are delivered online through the POST Learning Portal.
- How long do the training courses take?
The trainings vary between 1 – 3 hours, depending on the course.
- Is each nominee given their own login, or does each department receive one login?
Each nominee will have their own login on the Learning Portal. To be able to access training, you must have a POST PASS account and a POST ID. Nominees will receive email instructions from POST on how to set up their accounts and access the training. Nominees should not attempt to set up Learning Portal accounts as this will result in duplicate accounts and the inability to access the training. Nominees who already have an existing Learning Portal account will be given different instructions on how to access the training.
- If I completed training at a different agency, do I need to complete it again?
No, you are not required to complete the same training again. You may choose to re-take the same training as a refresher if you find it helpful. However, you must ensure you are on your agency’s designee list to administer or proctor a test.
- Do training certificates expire?
No, the training certificates do not expire, and you are not required to re-take the same training. However, if the training is updated in the future, re-training could be required. Be sure to retain a copy of your certificate for your records.
- How do I find out if someone has already completed a training course?
Nominees can download their completion certificate at the conclusion of training. Nominees should retain a copy of their certificate for their own records, as well as provide a copy to their agency’s Test Coordinator. Test Coordinators must keep a record of who has completed training for their agency. If an individual is unable to obtain a copy of their certificate, the Test Coordinator can reach out to ProctorRequest@post.ca.gov or nominate them to re-take the same training.
- I completed training but cannot find my certificate. Does POST maintain records of those who have completed training?
POST maintains a very limited archive of records for those who have completed training. If you have completed training and cannot locate your certificate, you may contact ProctorRequest@post.ca.gov to determine if POST has a record of your training. If POST does not have record and you cannot locate your certificate, you may need to re-take the training.
