Karen has been a Senior Law Enforcement Consultant for the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), since 2007.  Since coming to POST, Karen served as the program manager for Command College and the Executive Development Course, and later as the Legislative Liaison and Public Information Officer.

Prior to moving to Sacramento from Hawaii, Karen had a 27-year career with the Honolulu Police Department where she commanded the Narcotics/Vice, the Criminal Investigation, and the Training Divisions; performed undercover narcotics work; investigated sex crimes; was a hostage negotiator; supervised the Family Violence Detail; and worked in various patrol districts. 

Karen holds an Masters of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Bachelors of  General Studies in Criminal Justice from Chaminade University of Honolulu. She is a graduate of the 183rd Session of the FBI National Academy.
