Significant Dates
Below are significant dates affecting the Reserve Peace Officer Program (RPOP) from 1992 to date.
January 1, 1992
- The PC 832 Course is subject to the requalification requirement (Three-Year Rule).
July 1, 1995
- Level I reserve officers shall satisfy the Continuing Professional Training (CPT) requirement of 24 hours every 2 years.
January 1, 1997
- Non-designated Level I reserve officers, appointed on or before this date, are required to complete Reserve Modules A, B, and C and 200 hours of structured field training.
January 2, 1997
- Non-designated Level I reserve officers, appointed on or after this date, are required to complete the Regular Basic Course.
January 1, 1998
- Level III reserve officers are authorized to perform limited support duties as specified in 832.6(a)(3) PC.
- A peace officer who has completed the Regular Basic Course may supervise a Level II reserve officer in a general law enforcement assignment.
- The continuous field training requirement for Level II reserve officers is eliminated.
- Level II reserve officers are authorized to perform Level III duties without immediate supervision.
January 1, 1999
- Level III reserves are authorized to transport prisoners without immediate supervision.
- Level II reserves shall satisfy the Continuing Professional Training (CPT) requirement of 24 hours every 2 years.
June 30, 1999
- Level III reserve officers, appointed on or before this date, are required to complete the PC 832 Course (Reserve Module A).
- Level II reserve officers, appointed on or before this date, are required to complete Reserve Modules A and B.
July 1, 1999
- The Regular Basic Course – Modular Format (Level III, II and I Modules) replaces Reserve Modules A, B, C and D as the entry level training system for reserve peace officers.
- Level III reserve officers, appointed on or after this date, are required to complete the Level III Module.
- Level II reserve officers, appointed between 07/01/99 and 12/31/99, are required to complete the Level II Module.
- Level I reserve officers, appointed on or after this date, are required to complete a POST-approved Field Training Program prior to working alone in a general law enforcement assignment.
July 13, 1999
- Level I and II reserve officers may transfer at the same level to another agency, if there is no break in service between law enforcement agencies.
January 1, 2000 to June 30, 2000
- Level II reserve officers appointed during this period, are required to complete either Reserve Modules A and B or the Level III and II Modules.
July 1, 2000
- Reserve Modules B and C are decertified.
- Level II reserve officers, appointed on or after this date, are required to complete the Level II Module.
- Every school police reserve officer, appointed on or after this date, is required to complete the Campus Law Enforcement Course within two years of the date of first appointment.
January 1, 2001
- Former Level I or II reserve officers may accept new appointments at the same or lower lever, without meeting current training standards, if their break in service is less than three years.
- Replaces the “no break in service” requirement established on 07/13/99.
January 1, 2002
- Reserve Module D is decertified.
January 1, 2004
- Community college police departments are authorized to have reserve officers.
January 1, 2007
- The Level III Module is changed from two parts into a single component which includes the PC 832 Course.
July 1, 2008
- The Regular Basic Course - Modular Format is revised.
