Basic Training
- Basic Course — The Regular Basic Course (basic academy) is the training standard for police officers, deputy sheriffs, school district police officers, district attorney investigators, as well as a few other classifications of peace officers.
- Basic Training Academies — Academies throughout California present POST-certified basic law enforcement training.
Field Training Officer (FTO)
Field Training Program (FTP) / Police Training Program (PTP)
Agencies can select either the FTP or PTP POST-approved patrol training programs. Both FTP and PTP facilitate a peace officer’s transition from the Regular Basic Course (Academy), or custody assignment, to performing general uniformed patrol duties. Each program introduces newly-assigned peace officers to agency personnel, policies, and procedures.

The California Reserve Peace Officer Program (RPOP) is composed of members of our society who choose to dedicate a portion of their time to community service by working as part-time employees or volunteers with law enforcement agencies.
