Bureau Overview
The Basic Training Bureau (BTB) programs are the gateway into law enforcement for most of California’s Peace Officers. The BTB oversees the Regular Basic Course, Modular Format courses, Specialized Investigators Basic Course, Requalification Course, PC 832 Course, Field Training Course, Campus Law Enforcement Course, Aviation Security Course, as well as the Public Safety Dispatchers’ Basic Course. BTB also facilitates several courses designed to instruct presenters how to manage their programs, and manages the development and revision of basic course curriculum and Workbook content, administration of all out-of-state waiver requests, management of all Field Training Programs and other specialized courses, in addition to Basic Course Certification Reviews.

The Basic Training Bureau is responsible for the development and maintenance of a variety of different basic training programs such as the Regular Basic Course, Penal Code Section 832 (Arrest and Firearms) Course, Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course, Specialized Investigators' Basic Course, Field Training / Police Training Program, Campus Law Enforcement Course, District Attorney Investigation and Trial Preparation Course, Requalification Course, Basic Course Waiver Process, and the Student Workbook Project.
