Bureau Overview

The Training Program Service (TPS) Bureau is responsible for developing law enforcement curricula for California Peace Officers and meet California legislative mandates or other critical law enforcement training needs. Using subject matter experts (SME), TPS creates training that meets Legislative Mandates and other critical training needs for the field. TPS also investigates how the application of various forms of technology can assist instructors with presenting the best possible training to the 80,000 Peace Officers that serve the communities of California.


The Training Program Services (TPS) team is responsible for the following:

Mandated Courses

Elective Training

TPS also supports the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Program by providing Support via travel and per diem for California Peace officers who attend the courses. In order to effectively update and address new course content within the TPS area of influence.

TPS has been designated as its own Region 95 for course certification purposes. This allows POST to maintain consistency between the various contractors who present for TPS.

The essential functions of TPS include developing training standards for mandated course curricula, and implementing new training programs such as the Procedural Justice/Implicit Bias training course.
