David Honda joined POST in 2021 after 30 years in law enforcement, 25 years with the San Jose Police Department, and most recently as the chief of the Watsonville Police Department. In addition to his service as chief, he served on a number of state and regional boards and committees that focused on training, crime reduction, youth violence intervention, and leadership development. During his tenure at the San Jose Police Department he worked a variety of assignments ranging from violent crimes and MERGE to robbery investigations and internal affairs. He was promoted through the ranks to the position of captain where he served as a command officer in all of the department’s main bureaus.
David holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology from San Jose State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Leadership from St. Mary’s College of California. He is a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum, a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police (Class 47), and a graduate of the POST Executive Development Course (EDC).
